Unexpected Pop-Ups, Fake Warnings or Browser Redirects?

Quick answer: Do not call a phone number shown in a browser warning, do not install remote-access software because a pop-up tells you to, and do not enter banking or account credentials into a page you did not intentionally open.

A browser warning is not the same as a confirmed infection

Web pages can display alarming messages that imitate antivirus or operating-system alerts. A full-screen page saying “your computer is infected” does not by itself prove that the device has malware.

Immediate safer actions

  • Do not call numbers displayed in unsolicited security pop-ups.
  • Do not pay for cleanup based only on a web-page message.
  • Close the tab or browser if possible.
  • If the browser cannot be closed normally, use Task Manager to end the browser.
  • Run the built-in or trusted security scan.
  • Review recent browser extensions and notification permissions.

If searches are being redirected

Check the default search engine, startup pages, extensions and recently installed software. A browser profile or extension can change where searches go without the entire Windows installation being compromised.

When remote security help is appropriate

We can help review browser settings, extensions, notification permissions, installed applications and built-in security scan results. We should distinguish between suspicious behavior, potentially unwanted software and a confirmed threat rather than using fear-based sales language.

If financial information may have been exposed

If you entered banking credentials, card details or one-time codes into a suspicious page, contact the relevant bank or provider through its official channel promptly. Remote PC cleanup does not replace protecting the account itself.

Frequently asked questions

Does a pop-up saying I have a virus mean I definitely have one?

No. Websites can show fake warnings. The device should be assessed using legitimate security tools and observable symptoms.

Should I call the support number in a browser alert?

No. Use the official contact information for your software provider or a support company you independently chose.

Can BACKON remove malware?

We can assist with legitimate scanning and some software cleanup, but severe infections or compromised accounts may require specialist or offline recovery work.

Support boundary: BACKON provides independent third-party remote technical support. We do not claim to be the manufacturer or official support provider for third-party products unless a specific authorization is expressly stated. Physical hardware faults and provider-controlled account or network issues may require the relevant manufacturer, ISP, account provider or local repair service.
